Freequently asked questions
  • 01 Why should I hire a professional mover?

Hiring a professional mover will result in less stress and an easier, safer move all around. Moving can be both emotionally and physically draining and handling delicate or bulky items with care requires specific moving skills and experience. Moving safely and successfully requires specialized equipment and experience, not unlike other trades.

  • 02 When should I start planning my Move?

Sometimes unforeseen circumstances (e.g. inclement weather, elevator breakdowns, etc.) can result in your move taking longer than planned. We therefore strongly recommend that you arrange for packing and loading to be completed at least two working days in advance of your scheduled departure date. We recommend scheduling your move as far in advance as possible. The farther out you can plan your move, the greater the availability you will have in choosing a date and time that is convenient for you. A general rule of thumb is to contact us at least two weeks in advance of your desired move date. We realize planning is not always possible and do our best to accommodate last-minute customers as well.

  • 03 How do I get the quote for my move and how accurate will the moving quote be?

For the most accurate estimate, KIM International Movers recommends an on-site appointment to review the details of your move, however if for any reason you do not want an onsite survey we would be able to provide you with an estimate.. We pride ourselves for being accurate in our initial estimates however the surveyed estimate is based on industry accepted 15% variance. Be sure to offer as much information as possible at the time of the estimate, including reviewing the inventory for accuracy. Neglecting to mention additional items, or difficult areas of access, at the time of the moving estimate almost always results in unexpected costs for the customer.

  • 04 Is Transit Insurance (Moving Insurance) necessary?

Although we will take every necessary precaution on your move, unexpected damage can occur; and it is important to make sure that your possessions are protected. We are able to offer transit insurance to our customers to cover for any eventuality during the move.

  • 05 Self-Packing – Recommended? Anything I need to be aware of??

While our packers are adept at packing anything and everything, there may be things that you might want to pack yourselves, specifically personal items not limited to clothing. Focus on packing, instead of moving. Smaller items and moving boxes can be moved very quickly by professional movers. Don’t spend time trying to move these items yourself. Rather, focus on packing boxes, so when the movers arrive, you are 100% ready. Packing perishable, dangerous or hazardous materials in your household goods without your mover's knowledge is not a good idea. Seemingly innocent items such as nail polish remover, paint and automotive maintenance products can limit their liability if something goes wrong, so be sure you know which items are on the hazardous materials list. And if you choose to pack your own boxes and the articles get damaged, it may be more difficult to establish your claim against the mover for those boxes.

  • 06 What can I do to ensure that my belongings end up in the correct room during the move?

We would be labelling the packed boxes to indicate where each box needs to be emptied at the destination , however if you additionally want certain items to be placed in specific locations at the destination then choose a simple labeling system (i.e. MBR for Master Bedroom) and make sure that all the items are clearly marked with the accurate labels. Boxes should be labeled on the top and 3 sides. Your movers will work closely with you at the destination to make sure everything ends up where you want it.

  • 07 Can I leave clothing in my cupboards and/or dresser drawers?

While we would recommend that all clothing is packed in boxes , however if you would want to leave it in dresser drawers during the move then be sure to remove anything from the drawers than may roll around or shift during transport, as this can cause damage. If the dresser is particularly large it is best to at least partially empty it.

  • 08 Are there any items that you cannot move?

KIM International Movers as well as any other licensed Mover, will not move hazardous or combustible items such as propane tanks, firearms, paint, and aerosols, as the temperature in the truck / container could cause these items to explode or ignite. We strongly recommend not moving perishable food items as well.
